Project No. EP091 - ‘Huxley’

Rescued from a family here in York who had, in turn, salvaged it from their own garden when they first moved into their home 30 years ago, this has been a ‘classic’ EP redesign project; peeling away all the signs of abandonment, employing both restoration and redesign skills in producing a true centrepiece that, once again, can be lusted after by today’s style-conscious homemakers. A beautiful example of mid-20th Century British craftsmanship, this stunning cocktail bar/sideboard, designed by Heal’s of Tottenham Court Road, boasts a stunning rosewood finish, complemented by handpainted detailing, metal framed legs, solid brass hardware, and newly fitted mirror and glass sections.

• Restored rosewood door and drawer fascias are flanked by a deep grey-black carcass and shadow gap, which then continues internally with another EP x Jackson Pollock-inspired brass coloured ’splatter’ paint effect. The cabinet shelves remain raw wood, adding contrast to the interior with black detailing to their leading edges, whilst the steel legs have been stripped, re-sprayed, and its brass feet and handles removed, polished, and refitted.

• The central drop-down cocktail bar section has undergone an extensive transformation; the newly cut mirrored base, coupled with the underside of the shaped-shelf being ’splattered’ too, gives a glorious illusion of space and depth, further enhanced by the underside for the drawer above also being painted black. So too, the splatter effect repeats onto the drop-down shelf, with brand new glass surface protector, and completely stripped, polish, and refitted solid brass hardware. A slimline LED light with ‘on’, ‘off’, and ‘motion sensing’ capabilities is cleverly and discreetly attached via a magnetic strip to the inside of the cabinet. Finally, the cutlery drawer above has been fitted with new dividers, and lined in new black leatherette.

Condition: all of the furniture in our Store is vintage or antique and has enjoyed a previous life. Whilst professionally refinished/restored, some minor or discreet signs of wear may remain, or other age-related indicators such as pitting to original metalwork, or ghosting to mirrored sections may be present.
