Project No. EP086 - ‘Tiffany’

Dating from 1954, yet based on the distinctive Art Deco period stylings of the 1920’s, this substantial cocktail cabinet by ‘Beautility’ has been treated to the most unique of refinishes. Its tola and walnut construction has been revived and redesigned in a manner that not only highlights its stunning design features - with its raised, undulating panels and elegant curves - but also fully embraces its Deco origins. A multicoloured, geometric ‘sunburst’ design, influenced by stained glass ‘picture windows’ of the ‘20s-‘30s and the popular ‘Streamline Moderne’ architectural and industrial design movement of the Deco period, it is now a lavish tribute to this unparalleled period of style, whilst remaining an enviable addition to any design-conscious contemporary home.

• completely stripped of its original finish and carefully sanded to remove decades of unsightly marks, its carcass (with its otherworldly woodgrain) has been refinished with a hardwearing wax-oil and now shimmers again

• the central drop-down section, with sliding door and drawers, has been completely redesigned using a selection of tinted wax oils, stains and handpainted gold pinstripes. The design ‘wraps’ around the raised wood sections creating an almost 3-D effect, whilst the sun’s rays to the sliding door rise and fall with operation of the drop-down door. The original metal handles, with their ornate, floral appliqué design and decorative baseplate, have been cleaned and re-gilded with gold gilding wax and sealed. So too, all hinges and mechanisms have been re-gilded, whilst new brass magnetic catches have been fitted to all doors

• internally, the glamorous drink-serving section has a new mirror fitted to the base which bounces light around from the newly added, streamlined, rechargeable LED strip-light which is discreetly affixed to the underside of the sliding door. The light is easily accessible and removable via a magnetic strip, and has several functions, including ‘on’, ‘off’, ‘motion sensing’, stepless dimming, and can be adjusted to ‘warm light’, ‘natural light’ or a mixture of the two. The underside of the sliding door has been painted gold which is pleasingly reflected in the new mirror, as has the recessed section of the drop-down door

• the two side cabinets have been thoroughly painted in a custom mix of gold mineral paint, whilst newly-cut mirrors are inserted into the bases adding as sense of luxury to the storage of your treasured wines and spirits

• both drawers have been thoroughly cleaned and oiled, with a soft ‘wine red’ leatherette fitted to the top drawer enabling protected horizontal storage for up to 6 standard wine bottles

• the legs, feet, and elongated curved stretcher have been completely refinished with a mixture of wax oil and gold paint, elevating the entire piece. Indeed, the reverse of the stretcher is also painted gold - in the unlikely event you ever catch a glimpse of it!

  Condition: all of the furniture in our Store is vintage or antique and has enjoyed a previous life. Whilst professionally refinished/restored, some minor or discreet signs of wear may remain, or other age-related indicators such as pitting to metalwork, or ghosting to mirrored sections may be present.
